I was wondering if you would mind sharing which Meade product  you owned (I’ll be sure to use the past tense.. <g>)  ?    Would you also consider telling why you got rid of the Meade product ?    I am obviously pretty new to the amateur telescope scene, but I know  a bit about higher end instrumentation and business and it would seem  that Meade would have long since been out of business if their  products are all junk..    The market for astronomical instruments is pretty small, thus I find  it hard to imagine that any company that makes garbage would stay in  business.. Just word of mouth should kill any optics company that  produces consistantly bad products.    The exceptions are department store telescopes like Jason or Tasco  that get purchased by consumers that have no conception of the  difference between good and bad optics..    More than a couple people (on this NG) seem pretty happy with their  Meade products.. I like my ETX but it is the only Meade product I have  had any experience with and while it has some faults I do not believe  I could have purchased a better portable scope for the same price…    Would you share some of your basic reasons for disliking Meade  products so much ??    I would, personally, like more insight into all of these comapnies..
